Sustainability

At Mabtech, sustainability is becoming more measurable, and more connected to our purpose.

In 2025, we focused on building stronger foundations: clearer governance, better climate data, more systematic supplier evaluation, and continued support for researchers working to advance human health.

Our approach

Mabtech’s sustainability work is grounded in a simple belief: scientific progress should contribute to a healthier world, and the way we operate should reflect that purpose.

Our material priorities remain clear:

  • Promoting health and well-being through our products
  • Acting with integrity and transparency
  • Supporting a safe and inclusive workplace
  • Reducing environmental and climate impact step by step
  • Encouraging responsible sourcing across our supply chain

Welcome, better data

A major step in 2025 was the implementation of a carbon accounting platform.

The purpose is simple: understand our climate footprint better. After data validation, our first expanded report is planned for early 2027.

- Improved carbon footprint data will help us set future emissions targets.
Phill Keefe, CEO

Our impact starts in the lab

Mabtech’s greatest positive contribution comes through the work of our customers.

Our antibodies, immunoassays, peptide pools, and instruments support researchers studying immune responses and advancing life science research around the world.

In 2025:

  • 6,488 scientific publications featured Mabtech products
  • Publications increased by 8% compared with 2024
  • Publications in top-quartile journals increased by 15%
  • New customers classified as government agencies or research centers conducting research that shapes public health policy more than doubled

Our products supported studies in fields such as vaccination, HIV, COVID-19, immunotherapy, influenza, cancer vaccines, and emerging infectious diseases.

In this year’s report, we highlight research by Dr. Leonie Bettin at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, where FluoroSpot assays are used to monitor antigen-specific T cells in chlamydia vaccine research.

Mabtech EYRA: no fluidics fuss

In April 2025, we launched Mabtech EYRA™, our newest multiplex instrument.

EYRA was developed to deliver reliable assay readouts and fit naturally into existing lab workflows. Its fluidics-free design makes the instrument simpler to handle and maintain.

It also helps reduce the need for certain consumables and the waste connected to alternative solutions.
Like our other instruments, EYRA is built to be durable, serviceable, and recyclable.

Climate & nature: measuring more, managing better

We’ve kept our direct footprint limited. Now we’re improving the data and decisions that help us reduce our wider impact.

In 2025:

  • 100% renewable electricity at our headquarters.
  • Scope 1 emissions remained at 0 tons CO₂e
  • Scope 2 market-based emissions were 9.3 tons CO₂e
  • Currently reported Scope 3 emissions decreased to 186.5 tons CO₂e
  • Hazardous waste remained below 10 kg
  • 15% of instrument services were carried out virtually

We continued using recyclable, foldable corrugated cardboard and explored increased use of recycled packaging and reduced plastic where this can be done without compromising product quality, temperature control, or delivery reliability.

Ethical business: zero tolerance on violations

Trust is essential to Mabtech’s business.

We maintain a zero-tolerance stance on bribery, corruption, and serious unethical behavior. Employees are expected to follow Mabtech’s Code of Conduct and relevant internal policies.

In 2025:

  • 0 reports of corruption or ethics violations
  • 100% relevant staff completion of anti-corruption training
  • Continued due diligence on customers and third-party partners.

Supply chain: clear expectations

Supplier choices affect quality, resilience, compliance, emissions, and trust.

In 2025, Mabtech integrated ESG criteria into vendor evaluation processes, making sustainability considerations more systematic.

Next, we plan to implement a Supplier Code of Conduct in procurement and vendor evaluation. The aim is to assess 90% of essential suppliers by the end of 2026.

This will clarify expectations in areas such as legal compliance, business ethics, labor standards, human rights, environmental responsibility, and health and safety.

Our people: culture that cares

Mabtech’s culture is shaped by scientific curiosity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to quality.

In 2025, we strengthened the systems that help us listen and follow up. A new HR platform improved the foundation for people processes, employee data, and structured follow-up. Regular employee surveys created more opportunities to understand engagement, identify concerns, and support open feedback.

In 2025:

  • 45% women in the workforce, 33% in top management
  • 0% turnover at head office
  • 72% wellness benefit usage at head office
  • 28 languages spoken

We want Mabtech to be a workplace where people feel respected, supported, and able to contribute.

Governance: clearer accountability

Mabtech strengthened its sustainability governance structure in 2025 by appointing a Board-level champion and creating a clearer link to the Management Group through the CFO. Internal capability also grew as the Sustainability Lead completed external training.

This work is further supported by Mabtech’s ISO-certified quality management system, which provides established processes for documentation, risk management, corrective action, supplier evaluation, and continuous improvement.

- My training gave new perspectives and practical tools to connect sustainability theory with Mabtech’s everyday reality.
Julia Salazar Gustavsson, Sustainability Lead

Looking ahead

2025 was a year of stronger foundations.

Next, we will focus on:

  • Integrating sustainability priorities more closely into business planning
  • Validating carbon footprint data
  • Preparing for future emissions targets
  • Implementing a Supplier Code of Conduct
  • Assessing 90% of essential suppliers by the end of 2026
  • Developing a credible impact KPI
  • Continuing to involve employees in practical initiatives

As we continue building Mabtech’s sustainability work, we welcome questions, feedback, and ideas from customers, partners, researchers, and colleagues. Your perspectives help us learn, improve, and focus on what matters most.
